How does Kai search the web?
Updated Reading time: 2 min
On this page
Kai can retrieve public information from the internet: Kai searches the web and reads public websites. This is how Kai also answers questions that require current information from outside the platform, such as news from your industry or the opening hours of an authority.
What Kai can do on the web#
-
Search the web
If a question requires current information, Kai searches the web using short keywords. The results include the relevant text passages.
-
Read websites
Kai reads public websites when you ask about them or provide an address. Kai only opens homepages, addresses from the conversation, and links from pages Kai has already read, and respects the site's robots.txt.

Cite sources
Below the answer, From the web appears with the pages from which the information was taken.
What leaves the platform during searches#
For web searches, Kai only forwards the search term to a search service, never your name or account. Which services we use is listed in the list of subprocessors.
Since the search term leaves the platform, Kai only searches for public topics:
Never with names of private individuals.
Never with internal content from the platform, such as customers, projects, processes, colleagues.
Publicly known people, companies, and authorities may be named by Kai.
When Kai reads a website, it accesses it from Weslink servers in Germany. The site operator sees the page address and the IP address of our server, not yours.
Web content is information, not instructions#
Websites can contain hidden instructions. Therefore, Kai treats what it reads on the web only as information and never as a command.
If Kai wants to change something in the platform afterward, such as creating a task for someone else or moving a file, Kai will ask you first. A card will then appear in the chat describing what Kai wants to do. Only when you click Yes, execute will Kai perform the action. Kai will also ask if the conversation contains content written by others, such as an email, a file, or a chat message.
Info
For things that only concern you, such as a private note or an appointment in your own calendar, Kai will handle them without an additional card.
What does web search cost?#
Each web search costs Kai credits. How many is specified in the administration directly at the Web search toggle. Billing is done via your company's Kai credit balance; the consumption appears under the category "Web search". Reading a website does not cost anything extra.
For admins: Enable and disable Kai on the web#
Reading websites and web search are enabled by default. System administrators can disable both for the entire platform:
Open Administration → AI & Workflows → Kai → Settings.
In the Kai on the web section, disable the Read websites or Web search toggle.
-
Read websites disabled
Kai has no access to the web. Web search is also disabled.
-
Web search disabled
Kai continues to read websites whose addresses you provide but no longer searches the web itself. No search terms are sent to the search service.
If the toggle says "Web search is not yet enabled in this installation," web search is not yet available for your platform.
